Law firm in deals worth £100m as the property market picks up

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

THE commercial property department of a Derby law firm has acted on deals worth more than £100 million in the past 12 months and is reporting an improvement in market conditions.

Working on a number of multi-million-pound deals for Derbyshire property heavyweights Peveril Securities and Clowes Developments, as well as clients in the city, Flint Bishop has had to take on additional property solicitors.

  1. ?South Quay harbour in Hayle, Cornwall, has been purchased by Derbyshire-based Peveril Securities. Derby law firm Flint Bishop advised on the deal.

South Quay harbour in Hayle, Cornwall, has been purchased by Derbyshire-based Peveril Securities. Derby law firm Flint Bishop advised on the deal.

Among the transactions the company has advised on is the acquisition of South Quay harbour in Hayle, Cornwall, on behalf of Peveril Securities, part of Bowmer and Kirkland of Heage.

A complex deal at a major site, it includes a wholesale regeneration, including remedial works to the harbour wall, the construction of a supermarket, apartments and shops.

Also on behalf of Peveril, the firm has advised on the acquisition of a site in Peterborough for retail development and the purchase and development of an out-of-town retail scheme in the north-east of England.

The latter includes redevelopment, a cinema, supermarket, restaurants and hotel.

Transactions for Peveril equate to some £45 million of business.

For Clowes Developments, the firm has worked on the acquisition of a former GlaxoSmithKline site in Dartford for industrial and residential use.

Flint Bishop also acted for Clowes on the disposal of a business park in Wiltshire and on deals at the Castlewood Business Park, South Normanton, with deal values that equate to more than £25 million.

Flint Bishop property partner Heather Dixon said: "Both Clowes and Peveril are prolific developers and have been very active in the last 12 months although some of these deals were highly complex with work beginning at the end of 2011.

"The key to the success of large-scale developments is securing an anchor tenant, be they in food retailing or distribution."

Flint Bishop has recruited property solicitor Leanne Cook, Danielle Cafferkey, as new head of construction and engineering, and Alex Parkes who has completed his training contract.

Flint Bishop also advises the Land Registry on its disposal strategy, Derby College and Derby-based Ivygrove Developments.
