A woman has been taken to hospital after a car crashed into a wall in west Cornwall.

Pictures from the scene show the car has caused considerable damage to a stone wall on the side of a road in St Erth, near Hayle.

The car pulled out of Chenhalls Road onto The Causeway, which runs alongside the estuary.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at about 8pm.

At 9.15pm, two police vehicles remained at the scene.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said a silver Renault Clio collided with the wall and confirmed that the female drive was taken to hospital.

They added that the woman's injuries are not believed to be serious at this time.

Police are now urging drivers to slow down while approaching the scene of the crash.

One witness said: “We could see blue flashing lights of police car and there was an ambulance parked up too - two men who appeared to be passers-by were directing traffic

“We saw a young couple on the side of the road and a middle age woman stood alone.”
