A new supermarket is to open between Helston and Penzance later this year and will shortly be recruiting staff.

Building work is nearing completion on the new Co-op store at Rosudgeon, following more than £500,000 investment from the company.

Recruitment is about to begin on up to 20 new jobs being created at the store on Main Road, part of the A394, which is expected to open towards the end of November.

The store is being built on the same site as Westcountry Classics, which has been given planning permission to build a new, separate base at the back of the supermarket.

The original car sales and garage building has been demolished to make way for the new store, with the fuel pumps removed permanently.

The new store will run on 100 per cent renewable electricity, and includes customer car parking, Costa coffee express, bakery, hot food and Post Office services alongside the usual food and and drink found in Co-op convenience store.

Martin Trethewey, Co-op area manager, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to make such a significant investment in a new store in Rosudgeon - our new store will have a great look and feel, and we are looking forward to serving the community.

“Co-op is committed to connecting communities and making a difference locally, and our aim is to operate at the heart of local life. That is why we also want customers to know that they can become a member of their Co-op, and that they can make a difference to local causes every time they swipe their membership card when buying own branded products.”

Co-op gives money to local causes through its membership scheme, where members receive a five per cent reward on purchases of own brand products, and Co-op donates a further one per cent to community causes.

Students who are TOTUM cardholders - the new name for NUS extra – will also receive a ten per cent discount off groceries.

And it offers a Co-op’s Community Shopping Card that can be pre-paid by anyone sell-isolating, for use on their behalf by friends, family members or volunteers.

Job opportunities at the new store are due to become available in the coming week. For more information visit www.jobs.coop.co.uk The Co-op picked up the Convenience Retailer of the Year and Food-to-go Retailer of the Year titles at the latest Retail Industry Awards.
