Hi Jeremy Just to let you know that at its Full Council meeting last night (4 September 2014) Hayle Town Council resolved to support the substituted plans for planning application PA14/04705 relating to the main ASDA logo signage to be attached to the supermarket building. Hayle Town Council objects in the strongest possible terms to this application. The store is situated in a sensitive conservation area and more importantly within a World Heritage Site. Hayle was lucky to retain World Heritage Status and consequently expects Cornwall Council to support Hayle Town Council to oppose this application. The signs are over large and internally illuminated signs are against this Council's consistent policy, (for instance we recently successfully opposed the internally illuminated signs at Gratton's Garage). This Council is of the opinion that the proposed signs are not in keeping with either the Architect's or the Historic Advisor's original design concept. HTC has asked that this application be called in.

against PA14/04705 did want Asda there in the first place and I feel sure the place is Big enough for everyone to see without a huge sign it looks very bad So please refuse Asda its sign

To put illuminated signs on the supermarket building would be an atrocity. Councillors should be fully aware that the entrance to Penzance has been totally blighted by the Sainsbury sign and one on the South Quay in Hayle would be even more devastating and intrusive for all. With the RSPB bird sanctuary a stones throw away it would have a devastating effect on wildlife. The design of the building would be a complete waste as all eyes would be on the stupid advertising which is totally unnecessary. People, locals and visitors alike will know that it is ASDAs and the building will be one that visitors will want to come and see for its own merit not that of a highly obnoxious bit of advertising. It is will totally out of place and out of character with the rest of Hayle ruining a conservation area where no illuminated signs are permitted. NO to this application.

I object to this proposed signage. As a local resident who's property directly overlooks the site, I feel that this illuminated sign will do nothing but add further ugliness to an already hideous building. Please don't forget that this is a World Heritage Site, and conservation area! I also note that no Neighbour & Community consultation has been carried out by the applicant prior to submission.

Dear Sir/Madam, Please register my objection to the Planning Application by ASDA Stores to erect an enormous, illuminated sign on their new store in the Foundry Area of Hayle. The site is in an area of great historical importance. It is also in a Conservation Area. The original store design took this environment into account. The store is meant to blend into its historical environs and putting a massive, bright green, illuminated sign on it is completely against all that was intended. The sign is so large and bright that it will dominate the Foundry area and detract from the important, World renowned historical site. If this Application is allowed it will set a precedent and other businesses in the Foundry Area will want huge, lit-up signs on their premises. This is not Blackpool, nor a city centre. The Foundry area must be preserved. It is essential that this Application is rejected. The new store is situated in an important historical setting and the new Asda building has been designed to sit comfortably in that environment. A huge, green sign will spoil the whole Foundry Area of Hayle. It will stand out and distract from the historical setting. I strongly object to the current proposals for the 8 foot illuminated lights on the Asda site. They were not in the original plans. Hayle is a world heritage site, this is totally unacceptable to add the light at this stage.

I strongly object to an illuminated sign being display on Asda in the position and size they are requesting this was never mentioned in original plans, this is also on a conservation area, world heritage site plus opposite residential properties that will be effected I think the sign can be placed in a different position which is not so obtrusive

The new signs proposed size and lighting will effect the navigation of fishing boats entering the harbour and have the adverse effect of dazzling boat operators in an around the harbour area in the evening and morning twilight hours.These signs should be a lot smaller and sited on the railway viaduct side of the proposed building away from the harbour area.
