Angarrack Angle - August 2011
You know, it does not matter just how many times I look up at the magnificent Angarrack viaduct, it still gives me goosebumps as I admire this awesome monument of skill and beauty. The ‘build plate’ states 1885 and yet as one scans this vast engineering structure you cannot avoid praising the accuracy afforded to each interlocking stone which are aligned to the nth degree of precision that was required and demanded back over 125 years ago 3by those pioneering engineers and craftsmen. I dread to think how long our current building developments will last, especially as we now have this strange demand to include as much wood as possible in each of their constructions. It now seems to be the norm to build or repair something on the cheap as was recently seen with the resurfacing of the road leading into Angarrack which lasted around 2 weeks but yet again has been totally ignored by our councillors.

However, on the bright side, at the end of this road, which brings you into the square, we now have 2 beautiful bench seats which allows one to plonk themselves down and watch the world go by. It is pleasing that one of these benches has an inscribed plaque acknowledging Donald Bray who was the town’s mayor in 1983/4. I also noted this week that our village was well represented at the Stithians show where Lynne Williams won first prize for the ‘Petite’ class flower arrangement.
Lynne has also supplied many beautiful flower arrangements for our local church - a discovery of hidden talent. Talking about our Church/Community Centre, Sunday service is open to everyone at 11am; Art classes are held Wednesdaysbetween 1:30pm and 4.00pm; and Coffee mornings are alternate Fridays 10.00am - 12.00pm so come over and pop in.
One apology I have to make from the last edition (again) is that for some unknown reason, which may be old age, is that when covering the Angarrack Inn’s new licencees I referred to Julie’s other half as ‘John’ when we all know, including me, it is Steve.
Anyway I promised to make up for it with an update on their Monday Curry night which is now up and running, and believe me, is well worth a visit as they are superb.
