Community Matters Fund (Green Spaces 2026) is now open for applications | Localgiving

Facebook - Hayle Town Council - Fri, 19/06/2026 - 00:05
National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) has ???????????????????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????? ????????????????, focused this summer on improving access to green spaces and enhancing biodiversity.

This funding round, delivered in partnership with Localgiving, will provide £250,000 in grants to grassroots charities and community groups working to protect, improve and create green spaces for their local communities. The fund is designed to support projects that boost wellbeing, strengthen community connections and enhance the natural environment.

Organisations can apply for grants to support projects that:

· Create or improve parks, gardens, open spaces, raised flowerbeds or living walls in public areas

· Improve accessibility to green spaces, including paths, ramps or seating

· Enhance biodiversity through activities such as planting trees, hedges or wildflowers, or creating habitats such as bee hives or bird and bat boxes

The fund particularly welcomes applications from organisations supporting underserved or vulnerable groups to overcome barriers to accessing and benefiting from green spaces.

Registered charities or non-profit companies limited by guarantee can apply for grants of up to £5,000, while constituted community groups without a charity number can apply for grants of up to £2,000. Eligible organisations must be based in the Midlands, South West England or South Wales.

The application window opens at midday on Tuesday 9 June and ???????????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????? ???????????????????????? ???????? ????????????????. Successful applicants will be notified in July, with funding distributed later that month. You can find out more here: https://localgiving.org/community-matters-fund-2026-110070

This Council notes with grave concern the systemic failure of South West Water to manage the sewage system in Cornwall. Despite record bills and government intervention, raw sewage continues to impact our environment and public health.

At the Full Council meeting on Thursday 4 June 2026, it was resolved to ???????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???? ???????????????? ???????? ???????? ???????????????????????????????????????? ???????? ???????????????????? ???????????????? ????????????????????, and to sign a collective letter to the Secretary of State demanding the removal of South West Water’s management through a Special Administration Order.

This letter is being sent as part of a cross-party campaign established by Cornish local councillors who believe that South West Water has, over the past 36 years, failed to demonstrate that it can manage Cornwall's sewage network effectively.
