160721 | Who decides... 2016 Online poll | Mayor for Cornwall, a Leader and Cabinet, Committee or a new system

Cornwall Council is holding a Governance Review.

You may not know exactly what that means, but we’re talking about the way in which the Council will operate in the future, the way it is organised and the way it makes decisions, the way its involved with parishes and towns, the way in which the community can get involved in making decisions for Cornwall.

We want you to be actively involved – if you haven’t managed to make it along to any of our public events over the past few days, then you can get involved by logging onto the website that is shown on screen: www.cornwall.gov.uk/whodecides and I just urge you - make your feelings known, try to find out more and get involved.

We want to know how you think decisions about public services in Cornwall should be made in the future

Cornwall Council is reviewing how Cornwall is governed and managed and this is your chance to understand the issues and let us know your opinion.

We want to know how you think decisions about things that affect you, your family or your business, should be made by Cornwall Council in the future.

Who decides... online poll, 21 July - 3 August

Before you take part in our Who decides online poll, it will help if you:

  1. Watch our short film above - with John Pollard explaining the review

  2. Watch our short film explaining how local government has to change and the different models available:
Who decides film - Vimeo version
    Who decides - Youtube version
    or
View a leaflet of different models - Mayor, Leader and Cabinet, Committee system, or something different
  3. View the presentation slides, shown at the public Who decides events

Then when you know a bit more about the review, please take part in our Who decides online poll and let us know whether you want a Mayor for Cornwall, a Leader and Cabinet, Committee or a new system completely to make decisions about public services in Cornwall.

Who decides... events

The Leaders of Cornwall Council held a series of public events for people to consider:

  • Is the current Cabinet and Leader system the best way for Cornwall to be governed?
  • What should Cornwall Council responsibilities be and what should the Towns and Parish Councils responsibilities be?
  • How should decisions about public services in Cornwall be made in the future?

The events outlined the options open to Cornwall and were an opportunity for people to discuss how they think decisions about public services in Cornwall should be made in the future. What people told us at the public events will be used to help inform the full Governance Review.

More information is available in the 2016 Governance Review page, including the film shown at the Public events.
