Cornwall Council has approved a new retail park plan for Hayle today.

The vote in the Strategic Planning Committee meeting saw 16 councillors vote for, 2 against and 1 abstention the Hayle Rugby Club retail application has been approved.

The application, which has received strong support from Hayle Town Council and residents of Hayle, promised to provide 1,000 jobs (a mix of temporary and full time) and would see a £3.5 million development into Loggans Moor roundabout.

The Cranford application, which would have bought H&M and Debenhams to Hayle, was also heard today, was rejected by the Council with 12 votes against, 7 for and 1 abstention, citing the cumulative impact it would have on the surrounding towns as reason to oppose it.

The application, which was rejected in December 2014, was throw out again despite developers making recommended changes from Cornwall Council to their plan.

During the meeting Penzance's Cornwall Councillors spoke of the adverse effect both developments would have and also said having two retail parks would also effect areas such as Truro and Falmouth.

Paul Pellegrinetti, a resident of Hayle who spoke in favour of the Cranford development, said: "I am flabbergasted at the decision made today. Frankly it is embarrassing that the Council have given the green light to a proposal which is still in the outline form and hasn't been progressed.

"The Cranford proposal had done everything they had been asked to last time.I would like to applaud the Councilloors who saw the wood from the trees when they voted."

It is believed that the Cranford development plans will be going to an appeal.
