HAYLE PENWITH U3A:

Hayle U3A has the following programme this week.  Today, Thursday February 25, at 10am there is Games; then at 2pm the U3A committee meeting takes place. On Tuesday March 1 at 10am there is Art; then at 2pm the Film club meets. All sessions except Writing are held in the Philip Smith annexe to the Hayle Day Care Centre.  The Writing is held in Hayle Library.

ANGARRACK COFFEE MORNING:
Angarrack's next fortnightly coffee morning takes place this Friday, February 26, between 10am and noon at Angarrack Community Centre. All welcome.

HAYLE FILM CLUB:

Taxi Tehran.  Thursday February 25 at 7.30pm.

The Thursday film this month is the award-winning joyride of Taxi Tehran. Iranian director Jafar Panahi was banned from film-making in 2010 - this is his third film since then, made in secret and smuggled out. Panahi rigged a taxicab with cameras and drove around picking up fares, striking up conversations, and filming the results. Some of the people may be actors, and others are well-known figures such as a distributor of prohibited Western DVDs, a human rights lawyer. One is Panahi's niece, who is making a film of her own during the ride. It's a cheerfully raised fist of defiance: brave, but also witty and surprisingly uplifting, and saying more about the Iranian people and life in Tehran than the news ever can.

CHARITY DARTS EVENING:

Friday February 26 Charity Darts evening at the Smugglers Inn raising money for Alzheimer's Research. There's a five pound pre-entry charge which includes a pasty. Please call the pub if you wish to play some darts 01736 850280. Sunday live music from the Ocean Sessions playing blues, folk and pop music 1pm to 3.30pm with free entry. Friday March 4 Race Night. Starts at 7.30pm.  First race 8pm. A fun evening raising money towards an outdoor games room for Leedstown School.

HAYLE IN BLOOM:

Hayle in Bloom is proud to announce that Chris Stumbles was awarded the Hayle Town Plate by Hayle Mayor Graham Coad at the recent Town Council Meeting.  The award was made in recognition of Chris's work on the fish ponds on King George V Memorial Walk.  The fish ponds have been inundated with slurry and debris several times lately during torrential downpours and have taken much work to restore.  Chris has been looking after the ponds for seven years and it has been a pleasure, he said, except for the repeated cleaning up of recent weeks!  Hayle in Bloom congratulates Chris on his well deserved award. The Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday February 29 at 7pm at the Passmore Edwards Institute.  Please come along. On Tuesday March 1 at 10.30am, Hayle in Bloom are holding the first of their monthly guided walks on the King George V Memorial Walk, meeting at the greenhouse.  The programme will include a short talk from a guest speaker, Plant of the Month, gardening tips, an opportunity to ask garden related questions, and a walk naming plants growing on the Walk.  Please come.  Cost is £2.50 per person.

JUMBLE SALE:

Hayle Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising Committee are holding a Jumble Sale at Phillack church hall, Hayle on Saturday March 5 from 10am to 12noon. Refreshments available. Jumble can be left at the hall between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on March 4 or for collection phone 01736752778 or 07886499462.

THE ROTARY CLUB OF HAYLE:

The Rotary club of Hayle would like to thank all those who attended their Charity Beetle Drive last Friday evening at the Hayle Day Care Centre.

The event was a great success with 11 tables enjoying the usual frenzied activity with players between the age of 5 to 90+ desperately trying to outperform each other to win the prizes on offer for different age groups.  Many thanks in particular to the Hayle Brownies and Cub Scouts with their helpers who attended adding to the fun and competition.  All were a great credit to the youth of Hayle enabling the club to purchase two emergency Aqua Boxes which contain filtration equipment for those less fortunate than people in Hayle.  Very hard to think there are areas of the world that would be delighted to see some of the rain which has been falling here throughout this winter, was one of the comments from these compassionate children.

Hayle Rotay Club would also welcome other members of the public within Hayle and District who wish to join for friendship, fun and dedication to

ST ELWYN'S CHURCH:

On Friday February 26, Stations of the Cross 7 pm at St Elwyn's. On Sunday February 28, the Third Sunday of Lent the Parish Eucharist will be celebrated by the Reverend Rosemary Wickremasinghe at 9.30 am. On Wednesday March 2, Said Eucharist will be celebrated by the Reverend Sharon Clifton. Lent lunches at Phillack Church hall 11.30am to 1 pm every Wednesday in Lent. Soup, bread, tea or coffee. Cost £2 which will go to Churches Together for distribution to charities.

ST.JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, HAYLE:

St Joseph's Church in Hayle is part of the Roman Catholic Parish of the Holy Family. Mass was celebrated at 6.30pm on Saturday February 20 with readings from Genesis - Philippians and gospel by Luke.

There will be Mass on Friday February 26 at 10am followed by Stations of the Cross.

Lent lunches at Phillack hall each Wednesday during Lent at 12noon.
