A group of four apprentices in Cornwall are laying the foundations for a long and rewarding career within the construction industry after securing employment and training opportunities on one of the region’s most high-profile development projects.

Corinthian Homes is providing hands on experience alongside a structured training programme for its latest recruits at its North Quay development in Hayle.

The project is transforming Hayle’s harboursides and surrounding areas, with phase one featuring 140 homes, new shops, restaurants and open spaces.

When complete, the new coastal quarter will become a “nationally significant” new residential, visitor, business and investment destination set within the boundaries of the Hayle Conservation Area and The UNESCO World Heritage Site for Cornwall and Devon.

Work started earlier this year and with more than 100 people on site the project is already generating significant employment locally, opportunities for local business and now a dedicated apprenticeship scheme for those looking to start or progress their careers in the industry.

As part of their apprenticeships, each of the trainees is gaining practical experience at the Hayle development, alongside classroom-based study at local colleges, allowing them to learn on the job and gain industry-recognised qualifications.

David Speight, group construction director for Corinthian Homes, said: “The regeneration and redevelopment of Hayle Harbour is going to have a significant positive impact on the local area and its built-environment for many years to come. We are committed to maximising the economic benefits of the scheme both during construction and beyond by generating employment, working with and supporting local people and businesses.”
